San Francisco, A Collector's Garden (1990)
San Francisco 1998 Garden Show

Designed and built for the first San Francisco Garden Show to be held at the Cow Palace, we called this garden “the grandmother of all Mediterranean gardens.” Ours is a loose interpretation of the original garden of the Persian civilization (the oldest garden style known to Western history).

Originally a living metaphor describing an afterlife of languorous pleasure mixed with the sound of water, the taste of fruits and herbs mixed with the color and fragrance of flowers, this ancient garden style has traveled throughout the world in different guises, arriving in California by way of the Spanish missionaries.

This display garden is another reminder from GardenArt that the most appropriate garden models for California come from warm, dry summer climates.
