This hilltop garden was reconfigured to be more fire resistant,
while at the same time using less water.
Lawns that were killing native oaks were replaced with decomposed
granite paths and patios.
The deteriorated pool paving was broken and used as a new retaining
wall, thereby extending the garden into the down slope. The pool
was recolored to match the distant hills, and the bathroom-like
ceramic tile edging was replaced with slate.
