The owner of this garden was no longer able to travel and wanted to sit in this sunny space in the Mission District of San Francisco and relive happier times in the South of France.
Starting from the remnant of a stone path bordered by rampant weeds and an ivy covered tree stump, the garden was created in just six weeks.
Brightly stained lattice was used to cover unattractive board fences, and was then planted with espaliered apple trees brought down from Sonoma.
A recirculating cast stone fountain was formally sited in the back of the garden with two mini wisteria arbors on either side.
Golden gravel was used to create an informal patio, the tree stump became a bird bath pedestal, and the remaining ground was planted in an informal mix of flowering perennials, grasses and herbs. |
