After completing their new living
room, this San Mateo couple needed a new look for their garden as well.
Originally, a Hawthorne tree right outside the doors blocked the garden

the tree. We then created a playful paving that mimics the shape of natural
flagstone.

The grass-like lawn substitute is
a western native plant called Carex Panza, or California meadow grass.
It can be mown occasionally to keep it neat and lawn like, or it can be
allowed to become a soft, natural looking green meadow.
