Our client wanted this garden remodel
to be as “environmental” as we could get it. We made a drought-tolerant
“western” landscape using water in a style reminiscent of the classic
Spanish garden.
The fiberglass spa was converted into a stone edged pond, which functions
as the heart of the new garden.
Water springs from a jug embedded into the side of a slight hill, and
then travels through the garden in a “rill” or ditch.
Old concrete walkways were broken and stacked into raised planting islands
capped with flagstone seating. The patio floor is a combination of decomposed
granite and Arizona flagstone.
The large blue gate is as much theater as circulation, visually claiming
the tree top views of neighboring properties as its own.
