Ceramic Architectural remnants of faux granite
made by Gladding McBean Co., Lincoln, California
Designed and built for the late Manny Scrofani,
this garden reflected his love of life and San Francisco. Set
high in the hills over Eureka Valley, the garden was designed
for entertaining, with multiple decks, built-in seating, and a
central hot tub for cold San Francisco evenings.
The architectural blocks were bought at
auction, and were part of the facade of the historic Fitzhugh
Building on Union Square in the City.
In 1990, this garden became the site of
an experimental art installation by Chris Komater’s Secession
Gallery, a “gallery without walls.” Among the works featured in
this show was Michael Brown’s (Cascading Stairs). Michael Brown
has since collaborated with GardenArt on a number of projects.
